New Bike Awesomeness

I have purchased a bicycle to cruise the residential streets of Houston and later the urban areas. I took it for a spin today and I am sure, I looked like a novice. Spinning at the gym is much easier. With the great weather in Houston at the moment, I am looking forward to ending a long work day with an evening bike ride. In London, cyclists are everywhere, which is great for Mother Earth, but not so much for pedestrians. I witnessed a few collisions where the pedestrians clearly had the right of way. I even saw one cyclist, cut off a police car which resulted not only in a citation, but an arrest. The cyclist got a bit too mouthy with the, Old Bill and got taken to jail with his bike on the back of the police car. I witnessed the whole thing while outside with friends at the pub. Now that I think about it, I should dedicate an entire blog post describing the bizarre things I saw in London.

Yogi in need.

I am an active person. I enjoy going for a run, swim, hike whenever I can, but living in London and now Houston makes outdoor exercise a bit difficult. A part from walking or running outside, I spend most of my time exercising in doors. I realize that exercise is a part of bettering yourself and through the years I have come across instructors and fellow gym rats that take the psychological component just a bit too far. When I was in London, tons of yoga studios were offering introductory yoga specials, such as 10 pounds for 10 classes. Being the yoga nut that I am, I went to all the studios in my area to try out the studios. Some were a bit frightening..frightening in a they wanted you to drink the Kool Aide kind of way. One studio said that all of the other forms of yoga made people weak and that yoga should hurt and that in that pain you will learn your self actualization. They also wanted me to buy their yoga clothes and attend their workshops. They weren't yoga or meditation workshops, but self improvement workshops. For some reason I pictured those 70's style self improvement cults where people are shouted at for several hours and not allowed to use the bathroom. I am now back in Houston and looking for a new yoga studio....not Bikram or Power Yoga..just basic Ashtanga yoga. If anyone has suggestions, I am all ears.
